December
2008
Dear Irish Terrier Friends,
I’m very sorry that the Christmas wishes are late in appearing. We did the usual dash through December but this year was even more complicated by the fact that Jane was moving house surely strenuous enough but it did mean computers were in limbo at the crucial time.
Anyway, we both hope that Christmas was fun and full of blessings. Beegie and I absolutely love the whirling chaos in the house but Zuli takes time out from socialising tucked up in her bed. We did however have some significant massacres round the Christmas tree, chocolate biscuits so deftly unwrapped that only old sly boots Zuli could have produced such perfection.
Beegie in her Christmas bells and I sang carols at St Johns Wood station which was fun if a bit chilly. She did the usual Irish charm offensive but I heard our conductor say “the sopranos are weak and well…..er…..yes….” unfortunately that included us. I do find it quite hard to keep up proper walks with the dogs with so much else happening. This year the weather was wonderfully mild and with James, one of my sons staying, they had plenty of fast stepping round Regents Park which kept everyone calm and happy.
We ‘did’ the Bradfield Show on the way home from a weekend spent with cousins in Bath. Beegie worships cousin Frank and becomes very girlish and flirtatious. His collie Bart is very serious about life and I suspect shudders when he sees the Irish colleens appear. They’re very partial to his bed and he is such a gentleman……. The Southern Irish Terrier Society (SITS) are developing a very clever social line to their shows. They have a fair number of ‘non professional’ help which means excellent lunches, unbelievable tombola prizes, lots of children and a very festive feel. I’m a great fan of ‘amateurs’ as they do a lot of the non expert work and being an ‘amateur’ myself I would say that of course. The hall seemed somewhat crowded but it was a pleasure to see puppies and young dogs coming along. Well done SITS!
So, it’s goodbye to Christmas. The tree is already perched in the garden because I am off to the Gambia tomorrow – conscience stricken off course. Tessie is staying as her family are already there so there are still dog walks and masses more calendars to send. 2009 has been voted the best calendar so far. Jane will despatch any requests that come up while I’m away. Do have one, they are pretty and capture the Irish spirit I feel. Each month has its own little story and the dogs are after all our most best beloveds.
I hope the blessings of Christmas will take us into the New Year which will bring health and happiness to you and your dogs.
