January 2009
Dear Irish Terrier Friends,
So many apologies for the complete failure of the website since Christmas. It has been a calamity mainly because I was away in January and Jane moved house which completely jinxed her computer. We have been literally off the map and I am aware that so many people have become completely exasperated. I cannot say how embarrassed we are and hope that we’re back on track and looking forward to being in touch again. Anyway, Happy New Year greetings for 2009.
I’ve been away in the Gambia and it has been a rude shock coming home into the freezing cold, snow and storms. Zu and Beegie were happily at home with Mo and Arrabella the dog sitters and they couldn’t have been happier.
I always do some work for the cat charity ‘Gambicats’ while I’m away. Now, much as I adore cats, they don’t seem to have the same sense of humour as our Irish. We do however have a ginger pus at the beach club called ‘Ginger Snap’ who almost measures up. Rather like Zuli he is an expert at showing extreme disapproval if things don’t suit him. Happily the scheme set up for the cats last year has made a huge difference to the cats on site.
Coming back into the snow I did laugh at Zu and Beegie’s antics leaping round like puppies and trying to catch snowballs. Regents Park looked extraordinary with literally hundreds of snowmen, a wonderful igloo and a very plump ‘lady’ snowman sitting on a bench, rather well endowed with her knees crossed. I wanted to take a picture but there was a positive queue lined up to be pictured in amorous poses with her!
We’re looking for pic’s of the dogs playing in the snow to set up a special feature on the wild winter weather. Please send your pic’s to jane@weloveirishterriers.com or if you have a hard copy do send it to me. I’ve never seen such deep snow in London and probably even deeper in the countryside.
Next month Zuli and Beegie will be twelve. It seems unbelievable. They’ve been very well but after twelve one needs to keep an eye out for problems. It can begin to feel a bit like borrowed time. My little showgirl Hazel has done very well in the local shows and Anne Bradley is delighted with her. Dear Maddie has found a wonderful home. She’s always been rather a gentle bitch but when I met up with her at the Bradfield Show with Sue and her twin daughters making up her entourage she was being very full of herself. It’s so good to see these retired show dogs adapting quickly to life with an adoring family.
The 2009 calendar seems to have given great pleasure. My problem is I can’t bear to spoil mine by writing on it which rather defeats the purpose. I’m still laughing at February’s Hungarians on a cart.
CRUFTS, CRUFTS, CRUFTS
It comes round so quickly each year. We’re first in the ring on Thursday 5th March but we’ll be at Discover Dogs for all four days.
Do come and see us and the charming dogs. We have had some extra calendars printed to give away on the stand at Discover Dogs so you could be a lucky one.
Again please accept our apologies and do send in your stories and pictures to share with us all.
Many greetings, my love to the dogs,
Lucy
