For every baby...

and especially Tessie and Nonny who happen to be puppies

If it were not for you
I’d do the things I’m supposed to do
Like tidying my clothes, my shoes, my desk
My pots and pans and all the rest
And every other thing I possess.
Instead of which we play and cuddle
And snuzzle and nuzzle
And I jump about and pretend I’m a bear
And squeak like a bird.
It’s quite absurd.
I can’t resist this puppy charm
So now another hour has gone.

When you’re tired and sleepy eyed
I scoop you up and kiss your face
Your ears and paws.
A great bubble of love grows from my soul
And flows through my arms to tingle my thumbs.
Your small body, heavy with sleep, seems part of me.
Hush hush my darling scrumptious pup
My baby love, my precious one
Be still for all the world must wait
Sleep little sweet until you wake
And I am ‘lost in your love’ . . . .
As I’ve heard in that song.
For it’s quite absurd.
I can’t resist this puppy charm
And now, of course, the whole day’s gone!
